Gettting to K’gari

Stage 1 - Getting to Hervey Bay

Fly: Qantas operates multiple 35-minute daily flights between Brisbane and Hervey Bay Airport, while Jetstar has direct flights from both Sydney and Melbourne to Hervey Bay. Both airlines offer convenient connections from most Australian capital cities.

Rail: Queensland Rail operates regular daily services from Brisbane, Rockhampton and Cairns stopping at Maryborough West and Howard stations on the Fraser Coast. Hervey Bay tickets include coach transfers to and from the bay. More info can be found here: Queensland Rail Travel

Bus: Greyhound and Premier coach lines operate several north and southbound services each day to Maryborough and Hervey Bay. Greyhound also offers daily services to the Sunshine Coast via Rainbow Beach. Along with Greyhound, private shuttle transfers operate between the Fraser Coast, Brisbane Airport (domestic and international), Brisbane CBD and Sunshine Coast Airport.

Self-drive: The Fraser Coast is a comfortable three-hour drive, 260km north of Queensland’s capital city Brisbane, along the Bruce Highway (A1), with a dual carriageway as far as Gympie. Maryborough is just off the main highway, with Hervey Bay a further 30km north-east on the coast.

Getting to K’gari (Fraser Island) is easier than you think!

Whether you prefer to travel by air, sea, or rail, this World Heritage-listed paradise is just a short journey away. Located only five nautical miles from River Heads, K’gari is seamlessly connected to the mainland, with regular ferry services from Hervey Bay making access quick and convenient.

Stage 2 - Getting to K’Gari

Airport Transfer: You can add the short transfer from Hervey Bay airport to the ferry port as part of your registration ($10 per person, per trip). Alternatively there are taxi’s, Uber and shuttle bus services available from the airport. Here are the transfer times:

To Ferry: 10.00am | 10.30am | 12.30pm | 2.00pm | 3.15pm
To Airport: 9.30am | 12.00pm | 1.30pm | 4.00pm

Ferry: You will need to use the ferry service to reach K’gari. There is a direct service to Kingfisher Bay Resort which can be booked as part of your registration ($30 per person, per trip). Here are the ferry times to select from:

To K’gari: 7:00am | 9:00am | 1:00pm | 3:45pm
To Mainland: 8:00am | 10:15am | 2:30pm | 5:00pm

Please note: The airport transfer service is unable to meet any flights departing Hervey Bay prior to 10.30am or flights arriving to Hervey Bay after 3.00pm. This service is unable to be delayed. If flights are late, the next pickup time will apply, or guests may make their own way to River Heads Mainland Reception via Taxi at their own cost. Passengers who miss the allocated pick-up window will need to make alternative travel arrangements at their own expense.
